Executive Director

 

JOB TITLE:            EASEL Executive Director

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The Executive Director (ED) is primarily responsible for:

  • Oversight and responsibility to the management, budget, safety and success of the shelter
  • Budget development, accounting, administrative management and oversight, finances, program development and execution, marketing, communications and public relations; facilities and insurance
  • Oversight Fundraising – Individual, corporation, foundation and government
  • Hire and supervise key shelter staff as well as various volunteers as they relate to programs, specifically Shelter personnel.

This is a management position requiring independent judgment, initiative, strong interpersonal skills, great presentation skills and advanced administrative skills. The Director will need to be creative in developing new programs, collaborations and activities as well as providing strong leadership to staff. In partnership with the Board, the Executive Director provides support to the shelter, to the Board and all Board committees.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Services:

  • Responsible for the overall coordination and development of all services and activities in cooperation with program and support staff;
  • Review and assign staff for all services, special events
  • Stimulate staff to develop and assess ‘best practices’.
  • Outreach to other organizations for potential partnerships with EASEL in presenting programs to a wider audience

Administration:

  • Develop and implement a system of administration and record keeping for all projects and programs;
  • Maintain and coordinate service evaluations, feedback and statistics
  • Attend Board of Directors meetings; partner with Board Secretary on minutes

Financial Management:

  • Assist in the development of annual budgets; financial reports and draft audits with Finance Committee
  • Monitor budget compliance with Board Treasurer and maintain tight fiscal controls;
  • Purchase shelter equipment and supplies and oversee staff purchases
  • Manage A/Rs and A/Ps in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Maximize income and manage expenses to be cost effective.
  • Manage payroll, direct deposits, W2’s and W4s
  • Pay expenses, and prepare Board Excel reports with Treasurer

Staff:

  • Recruits, interviews, and hires staff in collaboration with the Director of Operations
  • Conducts evaluations of key services and administrative staff;
  • Remediates problems with staff as needed and facilitates termination of employee(s) if necessary;
  • Manage Director of Operations to train staff and facilitators and identify ongoing training needs
  • Provide leadership and direction for staff program meetings and staff training.

 Facilities and Insurance:

  • Ensure a safe and respectful working environment for all staff, volunteers and students
  • Maintain up- to-date insurance policies for liability, workman’s comp, & Directors+Officers.

Marketing/Communications:

  • Oversee publicity, public relations, social media, website and marketing for all services and events;
  • Review all program materials including flyers, brochures, website, social media for accuracy, overall integration, marketability, mailing requirements and deadlines along with Development Director

Sales:

  • Prospect corporations
  • Work with Development Director to create selling materials – flyers and discussion outlines

 Strategic Planning:

  • Partner with Board of Directors in long range planning, including business plans and strategic planning

Fundraising Oversight

  • Oversee grant research, proposals, and grant reports
  • Oversee and approve Event Committee for Annual gala
  • Serve as ambassador for EASEL attending Chamber and other community networking events
  • Write thank you’s and manage continuous cultivation with prospects and donors
  • Research and secure government agencies for donations
  • Collaborate and approve fundraising strategies and launch Annual Appeal

Board Committee Responsibilities:

  • Develop and direct volunteer committees related to Governance, Fundraising, Marketing, Event, Finance and other Ad Hoc committees
  • Staff specific program and administrative committees as assigned

Community Responsibilities:

  • Enhance working relationships with community organizations, agencies, and businesses
  • Network in community

General Responsibilities:

  • Ability to liaison with lay leadership and community
  • Ensure a welcoming, respectful and friendly job environment;
  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Board President and Committee chairs

Qualifications:

  • BA degree in related field, Master’s degree preferred
  • At least 10 years of nonprofit experience
  • At least 10 years fundraising experience
  • Supervisory, program, administrative and budgetary experience;
  • Demonstrated skills in oral and written presentations and computer competency.
  • Experience with managing committees and leading teams
  • Familiarity with QuickBooks and donor databases
  • Detail oriented and highly motivated to achieve
